Sighting in Saint-Germain, July 20, 1985

Aube, Grand Est, France

Sighting on July 20, 1985 in Saint-Germain (Aube, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

The witness said they had watched, together with other people, an unusual luminous phenomenon above a clump of trees. Around 10:45 p.m., under a clear, starry sky, an object shaped like an upturned plate with a dome on top gave off a white and yellow light. It stayed stationary. It gradually faded out, then appeared again. No sound was heard during the 40 minutes of the observation.

The next day the witness contacted a radio station, which passed the story on to the local press. The gendarmes investigated, but several points of the account could not be confirmed: one of the people named as witnesses had not been present, and the other did not confirm. The weather that evening also did not match the conditions the witness described. GEIPAN classified the case as B: the testimony appeared not very credible and seemed to be a fabrication by an adolescent witness.
