Sighting in Saint-Germain-du-Puy, August 23, 2009

Cher, Centre-Val de Loire, France

Sighting on August 23, 2009 in Saint-Germain-du-Puy (Cher, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Between 6:15 and 6:30 pm, several people noticed four points of light moving very high in the sky. As they moved, the points traced various geometric shapes, which intrigued the observers. Only one of them contacted the GEIPAN.

The GEIPAN considered the account not very strange in itself, and the description too brief for a serious study. The lights could simply have been four helium balloons reflecting sunlight, with the shapes resulting merely from their drifting in the wind. However, there was no concrete evidence to support this hypothesis. The case was only handled in 2012, too late to look for any launches of scientific or amateur balloons. Because of the lack of precise data, the GEIPAN classified the case C, for insufficient information.
