Sighting in Saint-Mathieu-de-Tréviers, March 13, 2012

Hérault, Occitanie, France

Sighting on March 13, 2012 in Saint-Mathieu-de-Tréviers (Hérault, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably the atmospheric re-entry of a space object (rocket stage, debris) (class B).

What happened

At around 8:30 p.m., a witness was out on their terrace when a group of green-orange lights arranged in a triangle passed by in complete silence. The formation moved quickly and appeared to be flying at low altitude.

A second account was collected, describing a phenomenon that looked very similar and occurred the same evening. An investigation was entrusted to an IPN. Based on the information gathered, the GEIPAN classified the case as B: it was probably the atmospheric re-entry of meteoroids.
