Sighting in Saint-Nazaire, February 5, 2009

Loire-Atlantique, Pays de la Loire, France

Sighting on February 5, 2009 in Saint-Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 7 p.m., two people were driving when they noticed three lights above the dual carriageway: one blue, one white and one red. The lights formed a triangle that hovered about 30 to 40 metres up and moved slowly. The witness also described each colour as forming a triangle of its own.

GEIPAN received only one account, sent by email. The sighting was made through the windscreen of a moving car, and rain was pouring down ("it was raining cats and dogs"). These conditions mean the possibility of reflections cannot be ruled out. The witness did not reply to GEIPAN's requests for further information, in particular for a police or gendarmerie report. No investigation could therefore be carried out, and the case is classified C because of insufficient information.
