Sighting in Saint-Nolff, December 16, 2014

Morbihan, Bretagne, France

Sighting on December 16, 2014 in Saint-Nolff (Morbihan, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a hoax (class A).

What happened

During the night, between about 2:00 and 2:15 a.m., a witness noticed a bright light outside their home. They went out onto their terrace and saw an oval, golden-yellow object moving slowly and silently above the treetops opposite the house. The witness took a photograph during the observation, which lasted between 5 and 10 minutes. The object then left at high speed, climbing straight up.

The investigation found that the image presented as the witness's photo was actually a cropped version of a picture taken in 1981 by a Mexican photographer, the full version of which can be viewed online. The witness remained evasive when asked for details and gave no clear answers to the questions put to them. In light of these findings, GEIPAN concluded that the case was a hoax and classified it A.
