What happened
At around 10:40 pm, a witness standing on their balcony saw a white luminous sphere moving across the sky, followed by a second object. The second object was shaped like a long cigar, with green and red lights and white lights spread along its length. The witness heard no sound, which convinced them it could not be an aircraft. No other witness came forward.
The investigation considered the case highly strange and sufficiently consistent, but concluded it was a misidentification. Reconstructing the trajectories showed that the two phenomena, travelling from north to south, matched those of an artificial satellite (notably NOSS 3-6 Rocket) and of an airliner of the B737 or A330 type, and the descriptions also fit these two objects. The witness did not recognise the aircraft for two reasons: its noise could not reach them, because of the distance and a wind blowing from the witness toward the aircraft; and they wrongly believed that no aircraft flies along that path. The unusual quick succession of a satellite and an airliner, on the same path and at the same angular height, can easily cause confusion. The case was classified A: misidentification of a satellite and an airliner.
