Sighting in Saint-Pierre, August 6, 1985
La Réunion, France
Sighting on August 6, 1985 in Saint-Pierre (La Réunion, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).
What happened
At around 3 p.m., several witnesses, including gendarmes, watched a bright white mass for a few minutes. It moved silently along the marked path leading up to the volcano. The object was shaped like a boomerang and moved with an oscillating motion. Then it suddenly gained altitude and took on a spherical shape, before vanishing without leaving any trace.
After a newspaper article covered the sighting, another person came forward to report having seen the same thing on 6 August 1985, a few kilometres away.
The GEIPAN classed the case as C, meaning the data were insufficient. No further information came to confirm any of the hypotheses put forward by the local gendarmerie. The conclusion recorded an object of spherical shape.
