Sighting in Saint-Priest-Taurion, September 3, 2025

Haute-Vienne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on September 3, 2025 in Saint-Priest-Taurion (Haute-Vienne, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class A).

What happened

The witness was in their garden watching a flock of buzzards when, at about 4:07 pm, they noticed a white object coming from the north-east, which they first took for an aircraft. It went into the clouds and vanished for a few seconds, then came back out heading the opposite way, with no visible turn. The witness photographed it with their smartphone. The sighting lasted about 15 seconds, and no sound was heard.

The radar data supplied by the CAPCODA shows that a light aircraft, a Piper PA-24 Comanche, was flying at 4,000 feet (about 1,200 m) at the time. It first followed a track from north-west to south-east, then flew a loop and headed from north-east to south-west. For the next two minutes its path was irregular, probably because of the strong wind and clouds the witness described. This unusual flight path, together with the limited visibility caused by the clouds, accounts for the strange impression the witness had.

The case has good consistency despite resting on a single witness, thanks to the photos and video and to the CAPCODA data. GEIPAN classified it as "A": a light aircraft that changed direction.
