Sighting in Saint-Rivoal, January 26, 1981

Finistère, Bretagne, France

Sighting on January 26, 1981 in Saint-Rivoal (Finistère, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At around 11:15 p.m., the witness was sitting in their car, using a CB radio. The sky was clear, with no clouds. They suddenly noticed a flash that lasted about 3 seconds. Curious, they leaned out of the car door and saw a white point of light descending and rapidly growing larger. This second phase lasted 6 to 7 seconds. The light then became very bright before going out abruptly.

The information gathered was limited. Even so, it was enough for the GEIPAN investigation to conclude that the witness had probably seen an atmospheric re-entry, hence the B classification (probably identified).
