What happened

A witness was closing the shutters of their house at around 6:15 pm when a large orange and yellow glow passed by, coming from the south-east. The sighting lasted about a minute, and no sound was heard. The glow then headed north, and the witness lost sight of it.

The gendarmerie carried out an investigation. After being shown a photograph, the witness positively recognised the phenomenon as a luminous balloon of the Thai lantern type. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as A, identified: it was the passage of a flying lantern.
