Sighting on January 6, 2010 in Sainte-Marie (La Réunion, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

In the evening, at around 7:30 p.m., a driver and their passengers noticed an orange glow moving slowly across the sky. Little information was gathered: the source gives no apparent size, no duration, and no account of how the glow disappeared.

The GEIPAN considered the case to be of low strangeness and low consistency. It has all the characteristics of a mistaken identification of a Thai lantern, although some uncertainty remains about the positions and directions. The case was classified B: probable sighting of a Thai lantern.
