Sighting in Sare, August 2, 2011

Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on August 2, 2011 in Sare (Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably an animal or natural object (bird, insect, pollen…) (class B).

What happened

A witness was filming the landscape when something they could not identify flashed very quickly across the camera's field of view. They heard no sound. They later handed their footage over to the gendarmerie.

The video clearly shows an insect crossing the frame during its last two seconds. The very brief phenomenon visible at the fifth second is most likely also an insect, a yellow one, that passed even closer to the lens than the one at the end of the clip. GEIPAN classified the case as B (probably identified): what was filmed in the sky was insects.
