Sighting in Savigny-sur-Braye, November 29, 2014

Loir-et-Cher, Centre-Val de Loire, France

Sighting on November 29, 2014 in Savigny-sur-Braye (Loir-et-Cher, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

At about 11:15 pm on a Saturday evening, a witness noticed a yellow-orange luminous shape crossing the sky quickly and without a sound. It followed a straight path. The witness was looking toward the south-southwest, and the object moved from their left to their right while moving away. No other testimony was collected.

GEIPAN noted that an orange glowing ball on a Saturday night suggests a Thai lantern, probably released nearby at the end of a private party. The wind recorded at Le Mans was from the northeast, which is consistent with the direction the luminous object took. The case was classified B: probable sighting of a Thai lantern.
