Sighting in Schiltigheim, October 1, 2013

Bas-Rhin, Grand Est, France

Sighting on October 1, 2013 in Schiltigheim (Bas-Rhin, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a light from the ground (searchlight, laser, vehicle…) (class B).

What happened

From home, a witness watched two bluish-white lights for about ten minutes, between roughly 11:15 pm and 11:25 pm. The lights moved together in a random way, and their glow passed through the clouds. After that, the phenomena vanished. About two hours later, similar lights appeared again and then went out suddenly. The witness took a few photographs.

According to GEIPAN, the description strongly resembles the light shows used in nightclubs. The photos show the patches of light only on the clouds, which points to a projection from the ground. GEIPAN notes, however, that a Wednesday evening is an unusual day for this kind of show. Because the phenomenon had little strangeness, no in-depth investigation was carried out to trace its exact origin. The case is classified B: a probable sighting of a light show, of the Skyrose type.
