Sighting in Strasbourg, August 30, 2013

Bas-Rhin, Grand Est, France

Sighting on August 30, 2013 in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 10:30 pm, a witness watched a blue point of light descend through the night sky for about ten seconds, without making any sound. Its apparent size was similar to that of a tennis ball, and it followed an S-shaped path. As it came down, its color changed from blue to red, then green, then yellow. The light then went out suddenly.

The witness was the only person to report the sighting, and there are no photos or video. A sketch was provided, but it is not very precise or detailed.

GEIPAN classified the case as C, meaning the data are insufficient. There was no precise information on the trajectory or on the light and color characteristics of the phenomenon, and no angular measurements had been taken. These gaps made it impossible to favor any hypothesis. The testimony was judged to have low consistency. The observation might be moderately strange, but the imprecision and gaps in the account prevent any valid assessment of how strange it really was.
