Sighting in Soulaines-Dhuys, June 15, 1979

Aube, Grand Est, France

Sighting on June 15, 1979 in Soulaines-Dhuys (Aube, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty (class A).

What happened

At around 11 p.m., several people noticed an orange glow on the horizon to the north-west, which puzzled them. It appeared to be made up of several points of light. After about ten minutes, everything went dark.

The investigation established that a surface-to-air firing training exercise had taken place that evening in the nearby military camp, located north-west of where the witnesses were, between 11 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. The glows they saw were caused by this firing. GEIPAN classified the case as A (identified).
