Sighting in Villiers-sous-Praslin, November 1, 2014

Aube, Grand Est, France

Sighting on November 1, 2014 in Villiers-sous-Praslin (Aube, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At 9:15 p.m. one evening, a witness saw three round, reddish-orange objects crossing the sky without making any sound. They watched from the north side of their house as the objects moved from west to east, and eventually lost sight of them. The whole sighting lasted only a few minutes.

The investigation first considered Thai lanterns, probably released nearby at the end of a private party. That fit the description: orange balls in the sky on a weekend night. However, the Melun weather station had recorded a light southerly wind, whereas the objects were moving from west to east. The hypothesis therefore could not be confirmed, unless a gust of wind happened to blow at the very moment of the sighting.

GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion, because there was no precise weather record close to the location and no corroborating information. The case, of low strangeness, was classified as C (insufficient data).
