Sighting in Thiant, January 6, 2009

Nord, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on January 6, 2009 in Thiant (Nord, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Between 7:35 and 7:39 a.m., a witness noticed a bright light on the side of an aircraft flying at low altitude. No other account of the event was collected.

GEIPAN was unable to investigate the case properly. The exact date of the first sightings was not known, no other witness had come forward, the questionnaire had not been filled in precisely, and no telephone contact was possible. Because the report was filed four months after the events, checking aviation records was also impossible. Pending any further testimony, the case was classified C, for lack of sufficient information.
