Sighting in Tilh, November 26, 1979
Landes, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France
Sighting on November 26, 1979 in Tilh (Landes, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).
What happened
At around 6 a.m., a witness standing in a field noticed a very bright white light source about seven or eight hundred metres away. The glow moved slightly up and down, five or six metres above the ground. Beneath the light, the witness made out a dark, spherical area. No noise was reported.
The on-site investigation found no marks on the ground. No military exercise flights had been recorded at that hour on the day of the sighting, and no other witness account was gathered about the phenomenon. The gendarmes had taken photographs, but these could not be found in the gendarmerie file. Because information was lacking, GEIPAN classified the case as C, insufficient data: the observation was of a light source, with no explanation established.
