Sighting in Toulouse, May 24, 2011

Haute-Garonne, Occitanie, France

Sighting on May 24, 2011 in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

A witness sent GEIPAN a photograph of an aircraft. While looking at it, they noticed an object in front of the plane that puzzled them. They had seen nothing unusual when the picture was taken, so this was not a direct observation: the mark was only discovered afterwards on the image.

In the photo, the object looks blurred and elongated against a background of sky. The investigation concluded that it was very probably an insect or a bird in flight. The blur and the stretched shape were most likely caused by the animal moving during the 1/100 s exposure. The case was classified B (probably identified).
