Sighting in Toulouse, September 22, 2013

Haute-Garonne, Occitanie, France

Sighting on September 22, 2013 in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

The witness reported, a long time after the event, having seen several orange balls moving at low altitude in the sky. They drifted slowly for a few minutes during a Saturday-to-Sunday night, then went out one after another.

The GEIPAN considers that this description strongly resembles Thai lanterns, probably released at the end of a party. However, it could not check whether the balls were moving with the wind, as the account was too imprecise on that point. The case, which showed little strangeness, was classified B: probable observation of Thai lanterns.
