Sighting in Toulouse, February 1, 2015

Haute-Garonne, Occitanie, France

Sighting on February 1, 2015 in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 1:30 a.m., two people watched a steady blue light for a very long time, toward the south, above the clouds. It did not move. Only one of the two witnesses gave an account to the investigation, so it rests on a single testimony.

GEIPAN noted that a fixed light seen for more than an hour suggests an astronomical phenomenon. That night the moon, almost full, was particularly visible, and the blue colour the witness described is consistent with moonlight. The weather was unsettled, with many passing clouds that could randomly open gaps or form dense patches.

The explanation that the moon produced the light was considered fairly likely, but it could not be confirmed without a photograph or another witness account. Because of this lack of information, GEIPAN classified the case as C.
