Sighting in Tournefeuille, May 17, 2025

Haute-Garonne, Occitanie, France

Sighting on May 17, 2025 in Tournefeuille (Haute-Garonne, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably one or more satellites (class B).

What happened

One evening, the witness was at home when they noticed a flickering point of light in the sky through a south-facing window. It looked like an airliner at high altitude, but its movement did not match a normal flight. It first travelled in a straight line, then suddenly veered to the right several times before moving straight again. Its brightness stayed steady, even though the flickering was irregular. When the object went behind the roof, the witness moved to another window, facing north, and kept watching until it could no longer be seen, probably because of the distance. Another person in the home also saw the phenomenon but did not give a statement.

GEIPAN rated the strangeness and consistency as medium: there were two witnesses, but only one account and no photo. The description fits a satellite well, since the object was a point of light moving in a straight line. The reported irregular movements can be explained by a perceptual illusion caused by involuntary eye movements (autokinetic effect or auto-stasis). At least two satellites passed on a compatible path during the time window the witness gave, with a pass duration matching the sighting. Without a precise time for the observation, it is impossible to tell which one was seen. GEIPAN classified the case as B: probable observation of a satellite.
