Sighting in Tours, December 14, 1999

Indre-et-Loire, Centre-Val de Loire, France

Sighting on December 14, 1999 in Tours (Indre-et-Loire, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

The account was collected in June 2014, long after the events. At around 10:30 pm, the witness had noticed four white points of light lined up in the night sky. Three of them arranged themselves into a triangle while the fourth circled around them. The lights then went back into a line and moved off quickly toward the east. The witness said the phenomenon happened again in March 2000.

The investigation noted that lights flying in formation and crossing the sky quickly in a straight line are reminiscent of Thai lanterns, probably released nearby at the end of a private party. This could not be checked, however: GEIPAN could not easily obtain the weather record for that day, which is too old to be found on websites. For lack of that information, the case was classified C (insufficient data).
