Sighting in Troyes, October 10, 1979

Aube, Grand Est, France

Sighting on October 10, 1979 in Troyes (Aube, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 7:55 a.m., a witness noticed an unusual object in the sky. It was shaped like an airship and moved at a steady speed along a horizontal path toward the northwest. The witness heard no noise from the object at any point during the sighting, which ended when the object gradually faded from view in the sky.

No other witness account was collected about this object. GEIPAN concluded that it was a flying object shaped like an airship, and that it could have been either an airship or the Super Guppy, a cargo aircraft replaced in 1996 by the Beluga. However, the information available was insufficient to settle the matter, so the case was classified C (insufficient data).
