Sighting in Vernajoul, May 11, 2022

Ariège, Occitanie, France

Sighting on May 11, 2022 in Vernajoul (Ariège, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a train or group of satellites (class A).

What happened

At about 5 a.m., the witness was outside their home when they noticed "something" in the direction of the Plantauren mountain. It was about ten white points of light, similar in brightness to satellites. They were tilted at roughly 0° to 45° and all moved together from south to north. Gradually they vanished one after another. The sighting lasted between 30 seconds and one minute. No other witness account was collected.

The investigation concluded that the witness had seen a train of Starlink satellites, most likely from the Falcon-9 launch of 19 March 2022, as shown by the visibility track map. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as A, meaning identified.
