Sighting in Yonne, September 30, 1977

Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France

Sighting on September 30, 1977, exact location not given (département: Yonne, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

In the evening, many people noticed objects in the sky moving very slowly at high altitude and giving off flashing lights of several colors. The phenomenon was seen over the town of Sens and in the area around Brienon-sur-Armançon, in the Yonne département.

The GEIPAN investigation reached a probable explanation: the witnesses most likely saw heavy air traffic, unusual for the region, caused by the activation of the Sens holding pattern, in which aircraft circled while waiting to land. The case was classified B (probably identified).
