Sighting in Aouste-sur-Sye, March 14, 2009

Drôme, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on March 14, 2009 in Aouste-sur-Sye (Drôme, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

One evening, between 10:00 and 10:05 p.m., the witness was on their terrace when a group of lights caught their attention. The lights outlined a "V" shape and moved steadily from south to north. The sighting was very brief, and the witness noticed no particular sound.

The most acceptable explanation was a low-flying aircraft or a formation of military planes, but it fit poorly with the appearance described and the lack of noise. GEIPAN was unable to send the necessary verification requests to air traffic control in time. A field investigation carried out several years later would have yielded very little reliable information. Without these checks, the case was classified C, for lack of information.
