Sighting in Argentan, August 3, 1992

Orne, Normandie, France

Sighting on August 3, 1992 in Argentan (Orne, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At about 1 a.m., a motorist was driving when they noticed a white, lens-shaped halo of mist above an embankment running alongside a field. It was roughly 10 m from the vehicle and 3 m above the ground. The mist then faded, revealing a dark grey oval object with a transparent upper part. Through it, the witness could make out a human figure in a piloting position, wearing a silver suit and a helmet. The object made no noise.

The driver woke their spouse, who had been resting on the back seat, and the spouse saw the same thing. Suddenly, violet beams of light appeared in front of and above the car, frightening both witnesses. The driver sped up. The spouse was the last to look back and saw a cylinder-shaped object disappear at very high speed.

No further information was gathered about this phenomenon. Because the data were insufficient, GEIPAN classified the case as C.
