Sighting in Avize, May 30, 1979

Marne, Grand Est, France

Sighting on May 30, 1979 in Avize (Marne, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Two people watched an object in the sky for about twenty minutes. It looked like a flattened rugby ball and moved from the southeast toward the northwest, at an estimated altitude of around 500 metres. A bright orange trail of varying length followed behind it. One of the two witnesses, a student pilot, said they did not recognise it as an aircraft.

No other testimony was collected about the phenomenon. The file is also missing information, including the time of the observation. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as C (insufficient data): it was the observation of a flat object leaving a bright orange trail, and the available evidence does not allow any further conclusion.
