Sighting in Bannalec, January 6, 1979

Finistère, Bretagne, France

Sighting on January 6, 1979 in Bannalec (Finistère, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At around 10 p.m., the witness was walking around their farm with their dog. All of a sudden the dog, clearly terrified, began to growl and took shelter under a tree. The witness then noticed a very bright, motionless shape about 15 metres up: a circular object topped with a dome, giving off blinding lights and a faint blowing sound.

From inside a building, the witness watched it for two minutes. The object then rocked from side to side before leaving at very high speed toward the west, vanishing at 10:04 p.m.

No other witness came forward, and no traces were found on the ground the next day. GEIPAN classed the case as B: given the noise and the rocking motion described, the witness most probably saw a helicopter.
