Sighting in Baud, February 11, 2010

Morbihan, Bretagne, France

Sighting on February 11, 2010 in Baud (Morbihan, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a light from the ground (searchlight, laser, vehicle…) (class B).

What happened

A single witness, sitting in their car at about 8:15 pm, saw three white lights turning in the sky. They appeared and disappeared one after another, and then the phenomenon stopped abruptly. The witness themselves compared the lights to the circles of light made by lasers in nightclubs.

The investigation noted that the direction in which the witness had been looking matched that of a nightclub, where a fluorescent-themed party was planned for the following day. A letter was sent to the venue asking whether laser tests or a laser show had taken place that evening, but no reply came back. There was no gendarmerie report for the case.

Without further information, the file could have been classed C. However, the witness was deeply convinced they had seen a laser-type light phenomenon, even though this could not be formally proven. GEIPAN therefore classed the case as B, a probable observation of light effects produced by lasers.
