Sighting in Beaune, October 3, 2014

Côte-d'Or, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France

Sighting on October 3, 2014 in Beaune (Côte-d'Or, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

Shortly after 5:30 in the morning, a witness noticed a yellow-orange light moving across the sky, which looked like a ball of fire. It moved steadily and made no sound, which puzzled the witness.

The investigation noted several points: the phenomenon travelled in the same direction as the wind, its dominant color was yellow-orange, it gave the impression of a burning object, and its path was steady and silent. GEIPAN concluded that the witness had probably seen a Thai lantern carried by the wind. The case is therefore classified B, probably identified.
