Sighting in Bordeaux, May 12, 2009

Gironde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on May 12, 2009 in Bordeaux (Gironde, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a reflection or photographic artefact (class B).

What happened

The witness took a photograph on 12 May 2009 and noticed nothing unusual at the time. On looking at the picture afterwards, they found seven black dots that they could not identify, and they contacted GEIPAN about it on 10 January 2010.

The investigation found the case to be of low strangeness and not very substantial. Nobody saw anything directly while the photo was being taken, and the image has all the hallmarks of a mistaken identification of a flight of insects, or possibly birds. Checking civil and military air traffic was not considered necessary, and would in any case have been difficult so long after the event. The case was classified B: marks on the photograph probably caused by insects or birds.
