Sighting in Bouches-du-Rhône, 1993

Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Sighting in 1993, exact location not given (département: Bouches-du-Rhône, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

In April 2008, a witness reported an observation from 1993, made during a holiday in the Camargue together with another person. The two of them had seen an unusual luminous phenomenon. It had appeared very quickly, like a shooting star, then slowed down until it came to a stop. It then made several zigzags before disappearing vertically at very high speed.

GEIPAN asked the witness for more details but received no reply. Because the sighting was so long ago, the exact place and date remain unknown: the date of 1 January was assigned arbitrarily for the file. No investigation was therefore possible. The case is classified C, for insufficient data. GEIPAN notes that the observation is not especially strange and is reminiscent of an atmospheric re-entry.
