Sighting in Brienne-le-Château, December 11, 1997

Aube, Grand Est, France

Sighting on December 11, 1997 in Brienne-le-Château (Aube, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At around 11 p.m., soldiers saw flashes of light that made no sound. At the same moment, the electrical power was briefly cut several times. EDF confirmed these outages: incidents had affected the 33 kV line supplying the area.

Because the flashes and the incidents on the line happened at the same time, the investigation considered it probable that the flashes seen had occurred on the 33 kV line when the recorded incidents took place. GEIPAN classified the case as B, meaning probably identified.
