Sighting in Cabrières, September 15, 2013

Hérault, Occitanie, France

Sighting on September 15, 2013 in Cabrières (Hérault, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At 4 a.m., a driver saw a light in the sky on and off. They then watched a dark, oval mass pass over their vehicle, which contained what the witness described as small luminous discs built into it. No one else came forward, and the witness did not report the sighting until May 2014, several months after it happened. There is no photograph.

The investigation found the account fairly detailed and consistent, but it came from a single person. The phenomenon's appearance was considered unusual, although its movement was ordinary. A helicopter was ruled out, as it matched the description poorly. Discotheque lasers seemed compatible, especially since the sighting took place on a Saturday-to-Sunday night, but nothing made it possible to confirm that hypothesis. GEIPAN therefore concluded that the nature and origin of the phenomenon remained unknown, and classified the case as C because there was not enough information to test hypotheses that fit the observation reasonably well.
