Sighting in Capestang, April 8, 2015

Hérault, Occitanie, France

Sighting on April 8, 2015 in Capestang (Hérault, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class B).

What happened

At about 7:15 p.m., a witness sitting on a sofa beneath a roof window saw a bright white flying object go past. It had no visible logo and its wings were V-shaped. It first flew in a curve, then climbed vertically at great speed and looked like a white streak in the clear sky, before disappearing from the witness's view.

The sighting lasted about one minute, long enough for the witness to draw a sketch of the object. According to GEIPAN, the shape described and the way the object behaved are consistent with a radio-controlled model aircraft of the flying-wing type. The witness lived less than 150 m from a sports area fairly well suited to model aircraft flying, so within range of a radio transmitter and in line of sight, and a Wednesday late afternoon is a fairly favourable time for it. This could not be verified. GEIPAN classified the case as B: a probable radio-controlled model aircraft.
