Sighting in Castres, November 15, 1980

Tarn, Occitanie, France

Sighting on November 15, 1980 in Castres (Tarn, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

The witness, who was driving, noticed an unusual phenomenon on a hill behind some trees: a disc-shaped object of dazzling white that rose into the sky in a zigzag pattern and moved at high speed. Suddenly, two beams of light lit up the vehicle, and the witness became frightened. The object quickly receded until it was only a point, then vanished.

The investigation found no marks on the vehicle and no evidence on the ground at the spot where the object may have taken off. No other witness account was gathered. Because there was too little information, GEIPAN classified the case as C (insufficient data): the observation of a disc-shaped object moving very fast.
