At around 4:53 p.m., two witnesses noticed a bright, elongated object in the sky. It hung motionless at first, then gradually climbed higher before vanishing all at once into the clouds. The witnesses heard no particular sound, and the sighting lasted more than twenty seconds.

The investigation established that no particular military exercise had taken place on the military camp that day. GEIPAN classified the case as B: the witnesses most likely saw a weather balloon passing by, lit up by the setting sun.
