Sighting in Changé, November 12, 2009

Sarthe, Pays de la Loire, France

Sighting on November 12, 2009 in Changé (Sarthe, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a balloon (class B).

What happened

The witness noticed that a room in their home was lit up. The light seemed to come from an oval-shaped object hovering in the air, in line with a row of electricity pylons. The sighting lasted about 20 seconds, and the witness heard no sound. No other testimony was reported.

The IPN investigator appointed by GEIPAN gathered further information: in November 2009, work had been carried out on the EDF pylon in the direction of the sighting, and a military balloon fitted with powerful lighting was present nearby. These findings provided a rational explanation and allowed the investigation to be closed. The case, which at first seemed to have a certain degree of strangeness, was classified B: it was probably a balloon used by the military, brightly lit at the time of the observation.
