Sighting in Crozon, April 20, 2007

Finistère, Bretagne, France

Sighting on April 20, 2007 in Crozon (Finistère, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a reflection or photographic artefact (class B).

What happened

A witness took photographs of a regatta being held in the Brest roadstead. When they looked through the pictures afterwards, they noticed spots on some of them that they could not explain. They had seen nothing unusual with the naked eye while taking the photos.

According to the investigation, this type of photograph is very hard to analyse when nothing was observed visually at the time. The images themselves provide little information, and no other account of a similar sighting at that place on that day was reported. Since the Brest roadstead is known for its many birds, GEIPAN considered it very likely that the witness had photographed birds passing through the frame without noticing them. The case was classed B, probably identified.
