Sighting in Figari, July 18, 2007
France
Sighting on July 18, 2007 in Figari (France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class B).
What happened
Shortly before 5 a.m., a witness standing on their terrace noticed a light that caught their attention. It came closer, then changed direction and eventually disappeared. The witness heard no sound at any point during the observation. They could not give an exact location: based on their estimates of the distances to neighbouring villages, the investigation could only define an area.
According to the GEIPAN, the light growing larger as it came toward the witness matches the front landing light of an aircraft approaching Figari airport. The lack of noise is explained by the wind, which was blowing from the east-northeast, behind the witness, carrying sound away from them. The case was classified B: it was probably an aircraft, of the airplane type, passing at night.
