Sighting in Zonza, August 28, 2014

France

Sighting on August 28, 2014 in Zonza (France). After investigation, GEIPAN considers this phenomenon unexplained (class D).

What happened

At about five in the morning, a witness watched for roughly ten minutes, between two clumps of trees, a dark circular mass moving without a sound. A light shone at its centre. The mass was preceded, and then followed, by several rows of groups of smaller dark masses.

The witness reported the sighting to the gendarmerie, and a field investigation confirmed their account. Investigators ruled out the most common misidentifications (aircraft, satellites, clouds, light displays), although some elements of the account might have suggested one of them. The case is definitely strange, but the movements observed were not intentional.

The testimony was judged to be highly consistent. GEIPAN classified the case as D1: unexplained, with good consistency and medium to high strangeness.
