Sighting in France, February 17, 1975

Sighting on February 17, 1975, exact location not given (France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a planet (class A).

What happened

In the evening, between 7:20 and 7:50 p.m., several witnesses in different French départements noticed one or two points of light in the sky that were unusually large and particularly bright. The observations lasted a long time, and no sound was heard during that period.

The GEIPAN investigation established that the witnesses had in fact been watching the conjunction of the planets Venus and Jupiter, which was especially visible at that time of year. The case was classified A, meaning identified: it was an astronomical observation.
