Sighting in Gourin, June 4, 2010

Morbihan, Bretagne, France

Sighting on June 4, 2010 in Gourin (Morbihan, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

At 11:12 pm, a witness filmed an orange light moving across the sky. A second witness took photographs of the phenomenon but was unable to provide them to the investigators. This person described it as a sort of balloon with a kind of paper lantern inside.

The main witness was interviewed by the gendarmerie four months after the sighting. The video attached to the gendarmerie report clearly and unambiguously shows the flight of a Thai-type lantern.

GEIPAN therefore classed the case as B, a probable sighting of a Thai lantern passing by. Neither where the lantern came from nor where it was launched could be established.
