Sighting in La Trimouille, January 18, 1993

Vienne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on January 18, 1993 in La Trimouille (Vienne, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably the atmospheric re-entry of a space object (rocket stage, debris) (class B).

What happened

At around 7 p.m., two witnesses travelling by car saw a green light pass by very quickly, for only two to three seconds. The front of the phenomenon looked very red and seemed to give off red "jets".

The investigation could not gather any further information. GEIPAN nevertheless considered an atmospheric re-entry to be the most likely explanation and classed the case B, probably identified.
