Sighting in Labruguière, October 15, 1978

Tarn, Occitanie, France

Sighting on October 15, 1978 in Labruguière (Tarn, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At about 6:50 pm, several people were travelling in a car when they noticed two lights and a steady red light above the trees lining the road. As they drove on, they saw an object carrying several lights, whose shape they could not make out clearly. It seemed to hover at an altitude of roughly 150 m, and no particular noise was heard while it was in view.

By the time they had pulled over to get a better look, the object was gone. Only a red point of light remained visible for a few moments. The object left toward the west, without any noise or smoke.

The same day, on the same road, a woman travelling as a passenger in another car reported seeing a flying object between 6:30 and 6:45 pm that intrigued her. No further details were gathered. GEIPAN described the observation as that of a hovering object and classified the case C, as there was not enough information to go further.
