Sighting in Lançon-Provence, October 26, 2004
Bouches-du-Rhône, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France
Sighting on October 26, 2004 in Lançon-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhône, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).
What happened
At around 2:15 pm, a motorist driving on the motorway suddenly felt watched. The witness turned their head and noticed grey circular shapes inside a cloud. The shapes were moving like fan blades, and the witness thought of them as an "eye". They did not stop, so the observation was intermittent and lasted several seconds. The sky was heavily overcast. Only one account was collected, and the witness reported it three years later.
GEIPAN found the account lacking in consistency. It contained a lot of detail for an observation so long past, made in poor conditions: the witness was driving at 130 km/h and looking backwards. The possibility of a reflection in the closed windows, which the witness had considered and rejected, was not entirely ruled out. In addition, the feeling of being watched, which came before the sighting itself, may have led the witness to remember details and comparisons tied to an observing "eye". GEIPAN therefore classified the case as C, for lack of reliable information. The same witness had made a similar observation two weeks earlier, of an eye following them on the motorway.
