Sighting in Le Bourget-du-Lac, February 1964

Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting in February 1964 in Le Bourget-du-Lac (Savoie, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

The witness was returning to the training base at around 2:30 a.m. on a Sunday in early March 1964 when they noticed a faint, very brief glow appearing at regular intervals about 200 or 300 m away. They moved closer to the fence of the military ground and saw five silhouettes moving around a craft resting on the ground. The upper part of the object, lit by the glow, was rounded. The silhouettes went back and forth between the inside of the object and its immediate surroundings.

Suddenly the glow went out. In complete silence, the object rose one or two metres and hovered for one to two seconds. The witness then described it as round or oval, with a flat underside and a top that was bumpy in the centre and along the sides, 8 to 10 m in diameter and 2.5 to 3 m high. It then shot straight up without any transition, at very high speed, heading south and making no noise. A brief vertical streak appeared in the sky, along with two other trails.

The next day the witness went back to the spot. The base fence kept them about ten metres from the exact place, but they noticed the grass and a few shrubs had been slightly flattened. They decided not to tell anyone about what they had seen.

GEIPAN classified the case C. It was reported only in June 2007, by a single witness. The events, very strange at first sight, cannot be verified: confirmed information is lacking and no serious analysis is possible.
